For students with dyslexia and related conditions, coherence between all instruction is needed to ensure an experience that promotes transfer and application of knowledge and skills. Coherence can be built through collaboration between classroom teachers and interventionists, consistent use of vocabulary, and sharing of data about student understanding between settings. Families are crucial partners in this collaboration. They can provide in-depth knowledge about their child’s behavior, what motivates them, and may be able to provide observations about what instructional techniques have or have not worked in the past.
